Des and Sam's Story
Des and Sam had gone quite a way to arranging renovations they were proposing on their existing home in Frankston South when they came across Yarrabank and decided to look into demolishing and building new. The renovation they considered was blowing the budget and not really gaining the home design they preferred. This meant a lot of compromising was being made to get even some of the rooms they needed for their growing family.
Together we designed a new home incorporating the slope over the land by splitting through the centre with 8 steps, therefore allowing a larger and more kid friendly backyard that could be watched over from the kitchen and living space.
It was important to the client to keep some characteristics of the area such as natural stone cladding and timber windows, thereby keeping a charm about the new home that was reminiscent of the old.
The home was kept to a simple layout with the kids having their own zoned living and the parents retreating to the rear of the home where they could entertain without disruption. The kitchen was fresh and modern including a walk in pantry and as many soft closing pot drawers as was allowed within the design to maximise the use.
We painted the children’s rooms in their chosen colour so the kids were excited in interested in the new home and it also allowed them to move straight in without having to break their busy work schedules to do work on the house themselves.
They arranged the demolition themselves and we were building and finished in 6 ½ months which was a relief to them as they were living with family at the time which can be stressful with a young family.
